Somerville United Hosts Inaugural Game
Thank you to EVERYONE who showed up or streamed our first game! We had 253 attendees and although Fitchburg FC didn’t show up ready to play, our boys put on a show for the fans!

During the pregame ceremony, Somerville mayor Jake Wilson and director of parks and recreation Ohemeng Kyeremateng were given custom SUFC jerseys, and executive director and co-founder Alesandra Onjiko sang the national anthem.

Winter Hill Brewing hosted an awesome afterparty once the game ended to keep the festivities going. In addition to great food and company, they served a special SUFC lager!
Matchup Against South Coast Union Tomorrow!
Because of Fitchburg’s forfeit and Invictus FC dropping out of the conference, Somerville jumps up to sixth place, just one point behind South Coast Union who SUFC will take on at 6 p.m. at Dilboy Stadium. South Coast Union holds a 3-1-4 record.
During the game, a table will be set up for kids with activities from Legos to coloring sheets of the SUFC logo.
Pop out to our pregame festivities at PJ Ryan’s in Teele Square at 4:00 p.m. to hang out with volunteers and fans before the game!
Inaugural Reserve Team Game Is Tomorrow!
Our CASA Select reserve team will also hold its first game tomorrow against Jaguars United FC at 6 p.m. at Rivergreen Park in Everett, Mass. Led by coaches Will Brown and Fred Foster, the team is ready to get out and compete!
Additional Team Updates
We are excited to announce that missingmoney.com is our official front of jersey sponsor. Additionally, New England Premier Sportsplex has been named the official indoor home of SUFC.

On March 28, SUFC will be hosting a clinic for Somerville Youth Soccer at Conway Park from 10-12, followed by a lunch with the community from 12-1 with food provided by our partner, City Slicker Cafe! Come out and eat pizza with us!
Volunteer Feature: Fred Foster

Coach Fred Foster grew up loving sports, but it wasn’t until 2015 when he took a job as an afterschool teacher at East Somerville that he was really introduced to the game of soccer. After learning from the kids, Foster got into soccer and started coaching for SYS.
After seeing an Instagram post for Somerville United that featured his former player, Foster immediately asked to help out and landed his current role as the assistant coach of the CASA Select team.
“It’s just been such a great experience to be a part of history, really. I’m really proud of everybody because I love the city of Somerville,” Foster said. “I’m always trying to give back the best that I can and be there for pretty much everyone. They’ve always welcomed me as family, so I’m always going to keep that in my heart.”
As soccer gains more attention in New England and in the US, Foster believes that the opportunity arises to provide scouts and more pathways for players to play high-level soccer.
“It's going to bring a lot of not only fans, but scouts. Because once the scouts are here, like the other day a player asked me about a big summer tournament and what happens if they win, I told them, you're part of history, and when those scouts are there watching you, that's the potential to get a scholarship to go to college,” Foster said. “Most kids don’t think they can make it to that level because of financial barriers, but with this semi-pro team, it's welcoming for everybody of all different backgrounds and that’s a key aspect, especially with how things are going in the world right now.”
Foster has been coaching some of the team members since they were in fourth grade and is excited to see how the team can grow.
“Being a professional isn’t just about what you do on the field. It’s about how you carry yourself off it,” Foster said. “When kids see players around the community, asking for autographs or pictures, that adds so much value. There’s a saying in Somerville that everyone is welcome here, and that fits perfectly with what this club represents.”
